Free Hugs food drive Umoja Village-Miami "Liberty City" Florida
February 3, 2007

During Superbowl week in Miami, Florida, the Free Hugs family put on a food drive for some forty six homeless people in Miami's Liberty City. "Umoja" Village, which means "Unity" in Swahili, is a tiny village in the heart of the city where these proud people have built homes out of cardboard boxes and pallets after being forced out due to gentrification.

This was truly an eye opening experience for the Free Hugs family and the many volunteers that showed support. The community's spirit and love for each other showed us that we can overcome any situation as long as we continue to show each other that we all matter and that we are not forgotten.
